MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WTOK) – Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $582,287 grant to the Alabama Department of Corrections for a program intended at assisting prisoners conquer drug addictions.
The grant will pay drug therapists and program experts to perform a six-month program at 7 jails to help prisoners break substance abuse routines. The volunteer program integrates therapy, education and drug screening.
The grant for the Residential Drug abuse Treatment course originated from the U.S. Department of Justice and is administered in Alabama by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs.
Gov. Ivey informed John Hamm, commissioner of the state Department of Corrections, that the grant had actually been authorized.
ADECA administers a wide variety of programs that support police, victim programs, financial advancement, water resource management, energy preservation and leisure.
