JACKSON, Miss. (AP)– A federal judge has delayed sentencing of a previous Mississippi welfare director in a case about wasting cash that was meant to help clingy households. John Davis pleaded guilty to federal and state charges in September and concurred to affirm versus others in Mississippi’s biggest public corruptioncase His sentencing initially was set for Feb. 2. Federal district attorneys submitted documents Jan. 20, looking for a hold-up. U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves authorized the request Friday. Davis led the Mississippi Department of Human Solutions from February 2016 through July 2019. He had control of federal welfare cash that was wasted on expenditures such as drug rehab for a previous professional wrestler.
